Strongarm Sessions Special Edition #05 (Xmas Special 2010)

So, enjoy the ride, and thanks so much to everyone for getting what I do this year.

Nero - BBC Radio1 Essential Mix

Came across this absolutely fantastic mix from dubstep superhumans Nero. Which our very own Elite Force added his touch to with his revamp of their stunning remix of MJ Cole's 'Sincere'.

Spot this though, there's some killer tunes on there. Apart from the Skrillex, but that's just me. P.S Did anyone see Skrillex & Mau5trap dominate the Beatport charts a few weeks ago? I found it kind of odd; but it's nice to see it getting back to normal.

Biscuit Reality re-fix Riva Starr

Debutantes on the Techfunk Manifesto, Biscuit Reality has a creampie to offer to all the sweet toothed, eyeball-popping enthusiasts of the techy sound.

The duo has recently done an enormous Noze/Riva Starr remix of 'I Was Drunk'. Being a great fan of schnapps, both of the guys do know what they're raving about - clear sound design with an absurd twist of humour make them a perfect complement to the ethos of Noze.

Download it free from here by subscribing to their dumb newsletter: http://www.biscuitreality.com/news/free-riva-starr-remix

Also, they've just launched their fancy little website (www.biscuitreality.com) the other day that contains soggy imagery about candies, cakes, confectioners and other sweet crap. Get updated about what's going on behind the white overalls and dubious beards...

'Hard Flaw' (Acperience 2010 Elite Force Revamp) *FREE 320*

This track is one of the reasons I make the music I do. I can remember exactly where I was on the dancefloor back in 1992 when I first heard this acid anthem. I'd been into acid house for 3 years or so, particularly the pHuture-style raw filth that to me was the PUNK of it's day. Acid House liberated people and politicized them in a way that's hard to understand nowadays ... going out dancing at the weekend was more often than not a political act, a statement of intent. This actually came out after the Criminal Justice Act became law in the UK (if I remember rightly) so it didn't necessarily soundtrack the rucks & riots & outrage that came with liking & consuming this music, but for me it was a symbol of that joyous moment of total abandonment where you forget everything and simply allow yourself to DROWN in the music. This is acid house at it's finest - an organic symphony of machines.

This version is dead simple. It's about letting the track breathe and evolve how it was always intended too. It's not about meddling, it's about gently giving it a slightly different context - a lot of work went into getting the production elements to sit comfortably and in bringing out certain elements of the original and using the stereo field to decent effect to do this. It's not rocket science, it's just an excuse to dig out this gem and play it in a current context.

'Hard Flaw' (Acperience 2010 Revamp) *FREE DOWNLOAD* by Elite Force

You can DOWNLOAD THE FULL 320 RIGHT HERE, where it forms part of a special webpage I set up to showcase my experiences at the amazing SHAMBHALA FESTIVAL in Canada this summer.

Mike Hulme - Live in Manchester (Oct 2010)

U&A stalwart & modular freak extraordinaire, Mike Hulme has been getting plenty of attention of late thanks to an awesome new single soon to come on U&A Recordings. The single features 'Set The Controls' (check out the awesome Burning Man video) and the psychedelic symphony that is 'Sweet Inspiration'.

A remix competition to mix 'Sweet Inspiration' began earlier this week and full information can be grabbed from the WEBPAGE, not forgetting the essential 44Mb of top notch WAVs, which believe me are well worth having even if you're not planning on entering. You can DOWNLOAD THEM NOW.

So back to the business in hand, and this wicked live set was recorded little over a week ago at 'Our Friends Eclectic' in Manchester, where Mike smashed the place apart at this rare hometown show.

Daft Punk win.

Guess who is BACK!? Indeed it's me. Having taken quite a lengthy vacation, Bleek is back at the Manifesto. A quick return post from me.

If you've been following me anywhere on the internet lately, you would have seen me raving about the return of the robots, Daft Punk. Anticipation is building around their scoring of Tron: Legacy and holy hell am I excited; I'm the same level of excited as I was when The Chemical Brothers announced Further, probably more actually.

What makes this more interesting? The rumours around their return to the live shows. Nothing has been announced, but instead the french duo decided to pop at a Phoenix concert. Completely unannounced.

Holy. Crap.

Looking Back > Going Forward #5 Remixes

It goes without saying, for every release there seems to follow the remixes, often on more than one occasion. Ok, if the track has taken a great initial reception, it only seems justifiable that a burgeoning package of remixes should follow.

But, as it is with all remixes, whilst some are momentous (often better than the original) there will be others that are the filler that haven't taken the amount of effort the original so rightly deserved.

Lee Coombs - Techfunk Podcast Episode #7

Heavily involved in the process of putting tracks together for his next album, tech-funk legend Lee Coombs is still finding the time to throw out the stellar mixes via his podcasts.

Seeing as everyone jumped at the old skool breaks he threw down on the last one, he's kept that broken flavour going with some heavy nuskool samplings.

With fresh stuff on the podcast from Uberzone, Vandal, the man himself and some pretty heavy electro & techno efforts from Miles Dyson & Popof, this one's proved to be yet another set for full rotation for the month ahead!

Bitrok - DJ Mix (September 2010)

The Bitrok boys from Brisbane have been a little quiet of late, opting to hone their tech-funk trade in the studio, and in doing so have actually generated an album of great diversity & range. But, to prove they haven't gone all dancefloor-shy on yo ass, they've cooked up a seamless one-hour mix with their acid-tinged-filth-stylings to the fore. On 18th October, the boys release their debut on U&A Recordings ('Push The Envelope'), but before that enjoy their mix & show 'em some love on their SOUNDCLOUD PAGE.

Elite Force - Strongarm Sessions Special Edition #04 (LIVE)

Recorded live & direct at the Boat Party I hosted on the Thames earlier this summer on two CDJ-800s and a dusty old DJM-600, it captures something of the essence of the night. Unfortunately we were cut short by a rather noise-averse captain, so I took the liberty of editing on the two tracks I was planning on finishing my set with to round things off as they were intended. This is the first LIVE Strongarm Sessions since back in the Breaks FM days, and the first of the year, so do enjoy and feel free to add your comments to the SOUNDCLOUD page or the FACEBOOK page and also spread the link far & wide :)

Jaqlavak :: Crystal Methodist EP

Years ago I (Adan, your humble TFM contributor) released tracks with Scot Sifter for Boombox Records, helping in our own small way to cross pollinate genres before we knew the term Tech Funk. Anyway, one of our new tunes had the honour this week of being the first release on Sturdy Recordings, a US based upstart committed to spreading the Tech Funk ethos and sound throughout the states. Definitely need more of that.

The EP is out now on Beatport.

Elite Force @ Opulent Temple 2010

I've been AWOL in the desert. Burning Man this year was ten times the head-jam that last year's was (and that left me utterly floored). As usual it will take weeks to process the experience, and probably longer to find the right words to describe the indescribable, but in the meantime I'll be dropping a series of video edits on the blog.

First up, the jaw-dropping Saturday night set at Opulent Temple. I loved the changes that OT made this year, bringing the perimeter in tighter, tweaking the flame guns on top of the booth, and massively improving the fire control that the DJ (yes the DJ!!) has inside the booth, not to mention the reconfiguration of the bottom end of the system which meant you could hear it from the DEEP Playa.

This felt like a homecoming in the truest sense of the word )*(

Bump DJs - Falcone :: Disconnected Audio

Bump DJs are identical twin duo, Mike and Manny Holihan. Over the last couple of years they have established themselves solidly as DJs in the Sydney techno scene. Recently, the Bumps' have been hard at work in the studio putting their own twist on the solid techno sound they are renowned for pushing in the club. Setting high standards for themselves, they have now secured their first release, Falcone on Disconnected Audio.

On remix duties we have Aussie favourite, Bass Kleph who turns in a big peak time track that is full of party vibes and massive amounts of class. Keeping things close to home we also have New Zealand’s Magik Johnson who keeps things a little housier with a tight groove and soulful vibes.

Get a listen to the release & support this second release on Matty Dopamine's label at Beatport:

Calvertron Live @ Wickerman July 2010 [U&A BigTop] by U&A Recordings

Calvertron Interview

Have you been to Wickerman before and can you describe it for people that haven’t had the pleasure?
Thousands of people, great atmosphere, cool acts, the U&A tent was rocking! (and packed)

What current track is your weapon of choice at the moment?
The latest release on my label (came out this week) made by me and my cousin (Paul Calver) entitled - 'Calvertron & Qalvr - Raw 2 Da Floor' seems to be doing the business at my gigs!

Whats your next big show coming up you would like to tell everyone about?
I've got some great gigs coming up in August in places like Vancouver, Sicily, Denver but I'm really excited about a show Will Bailey and I are playing as 'Twocker' at the Kosmic Festival in LA. It's my 1st time in LA and the 1st Twocker set since 2008.

What is your all-time favourite u&a track and why?
'We Don't Play That' (Aniki Remix) is pretty sick!

Anything else you would like to add?
I'd Like to say a HUGE thanks to everyone involved with the U&A tent at Wickerman for doing such an amazing job, Shack for booking me and Simon and LJ for the kind hospitality. Hope to come back again!

New compilation from Myagi - Donations to Temple of Flux welcome!

It's been about 2 years since the last proper Myagi studio album and about a year and a half since he started his label Pop And Lock, so Andrew Mavor (as his family like to call him) figured it was about time to do a new "compilation" of sorts to hold things over until he finishes his next album, due out later this year or early next. It's also for charity! 100% of the proceeds from any donations you make go to Burning Man's Temple of Flux, a massive construction project that needs all the support it can get.

You can download the comp and donate HERE, and read more about the Temple below!

Notes From Myagi:

"San Francisco is a city very dear to me, and has been the site of some of my favourite shows I've played in my 6 years of touring or so... The city has a great nightlife scene and is also a hub for the festival / phenomenon Burning Man, a week long celebration of music, art and lifestyle in the desert. The festival is very much a labor of love - I knew this already, but didn't comprehend the degree to which the word "labor" comes into play until a recent trip to the bay area to do a benefit show with Elite Force, Soul Of Man and Slyde for the 2010 Temple Of Flux, a massive construction and project that involves numerous friends of mine."

You can check out a bit of a "walkthrough" of the Temple as a rendered animation here:

Please check out the album and if you feel inclined (at I hope you do) donate as much as you like / can to help a bunch of VERY talented people do something very special.

Rektchordz Vs Jakatta - American Dream (Re-Boot) [320]

Jamie Rektchordz has been smashing it this year.

Kicking off with a Hypem-topping
Calvin Harris mashup, following through with a stellar Beatport-conquering single for U&A ('SpeakerBump') and a wicked slice of classic tech-funk for Aux ('Lush'), he's also been busy throwing down at a series of keynote festivals this summer, recently closing out the U&A tent at Wickerman at 5am to a chorus of 'ONE MORE TUNE' that resonated well into the next day!

With the Aeon Festival in the South West coming up and a series of new tracks & remixes (his remix for
Felix Luker on U&A is MASSIVE!) he's now decided to set free the second bootleg / remake of the year, this time focusing his sights on Jakatta's 'American Dream'. It's the perfect end-of-evening anthem :)

Here we have yet another exclusive first for you then, with a FREE 320 download. Grab it from the widget below & check out the links for more Rektchordz info & hook-ups.
