Elite Force Chart - April 2009

Whilst I start the slow process of assembling everything I need to start work on a new Elite Force album, and with it take a few weeks off from the DJ work, here's an upfront selection lighting up the DJ box over the past few weeks.

Adan's Just Givin It Away

I ran across this tune while searching samples for a remix I was recently working on for VIM. This is a remix my old partner Sifter and I completed a couple of years ago for a now defunct handheld game console. After a couple of listens, and testing performed on inebriated crowds, I thought it'd be nice to pass around. So...here ya go. 320 mp3 of four to the floor business with an exaggerated bottom and sirens galore.

Enjoy - and if the link has expired, feel free to email me for a copy.

Adan's Just Giving It Away

Breakfastaz Release & Mix

Artist: Breakfastaz
Release: Acting Wrong / Girls, Money, Drink & Drugs (CTRL Z Rmx)
Label: The Breakfast Club
Release Date: May 2009

Acting Wrong is club oriented new school breakbeat with an uptempo bassline that gets under the skin and a synth that gets up in the rafters. It’s completely a vocal based track, with really nice work by Meshach, that will go over big with the females on most dancefloors. Most of the higher placed elements straddle the progressive and trance breaks sound, which may throw a few jocks from the uplifting tone, but the changeups and drumwork are solid enough to make some overlook or fully embrace the tune.

The flip will appeal to those looking for more banging, head shredder breaks, as this version of Girls, Money, Drink and Drugs comes courtesy of CTRL Z featuring MC Ivory. The intro is an extended build that throws quite a few elements in the mix from the outset. Distorted guitar snippets and effected bits of the original, including the vocal hook, create a tension that peaks with an acid break that targets the prime time. A minor tuned, classic synth stab and the aforementioned acid slant add to the cut, and help to balance against the somewhat lengthy breakdowns throughout. All in all though, this is a ripping interpretation that should find a fair amount of favour with those still dropping the breakbeat.

Hyperion call time with a classic Brisbane show

U&A favourites Hyperion have decided to call time on their much vaunted project. They have been highly lauded in recent months for their brilliant take on the tech-funk blueprint, giving us singles such as 'On The Expressway' and mind-blowing remixes for Dylan Rhymes (I Am Sweet), Elite Force (Peyote Road) and Meat Katie & Elite Force (Dark & Deep), and developing a punishing techno-orientation to their sound.

Before you begin the bleating about 'how, why, when, what the fuck are they thinking (etc...), it's been forced upon them as a consequence of the multiplicity of other acts using the same name, and they are now steeling themselves to be re-born under new monicker The Loops of Fury. With a clear tip of the hat to the Chemical Brothers, the new material is nothing short of astounding, and back on Saturday 18th April, they stunned the Moonbar in Brisbane with a tour de force set which put a perfect full stop on the past, whilst bringing in the future with a slew of new material and fresh mixes. Check the video below, and keep locked onto the Manifesto for the first previews of the new Loops of Fury material, set to drop on U&A in June.

new album in progress - join me

Just a quick heads-up, have recently started work on a new album and decided to share the entire working process online. As an avid album buyer, I still find 'band at work' photos printed on sleeve art quite possibly the coolest thing ever.

So to mimic this idea, I am posting images from my camera phone every few hours to my Blogger blog. I expect the album will take about a year, just completed the first song last night, and there will be a photo going online every few hours until the CD is released.

Through the images I'm hoping you can follow my train of thought, see some of the people & gear & locations I work with, where I find sources of inspiration ... or just see how bad things get when the motivation dries up!

Not posting video clips, they are to literal. Nor posting work in progress MP3s, that would just ruin the album.

Hope you enjoy the (wish I had a better word to use next...) journey, please comment on what you see, and I'm more that happy to answer any & all questions along the way.

Albeit with a slight delay, the most recent photo links are automatically mirrored to my Twitter page, if you are that way inclined.
