Revamped - Party Phenomenon

Coming on Monday 1st on U&A, the first of the Revamped tracks on digital at Beatport. This is a good old fashioned party-starter from Elite Force, mashing up elements of trax from Tim Deluxe, Krafty Kuts, Christian J & Dylan Rhymes. Hmmm Christian J - now there's a name we would LOVE to see producing tuff trax for the floor once again!

Zach Moore :: Gough Street Sessions

Back once again on the Tech Funk Manifesto is San Francisco DJ Zach Moore of The Space Cowboys. This time around Zach gives us an early taste of his Tech Funk and Breaks mix scheduled for release on his Gough Street Sessions podcast in March.

A few words from Zach on his mix...
"Last month I had the great pleasure of playing for the
Opulent Temple crew at their ‘Deep Underground’ party to help raise funds for their return to Burning Man in 2010. As per usual I showed up with my trusty Microtrack hoping to capture as many of the DJ sets as I could. My plan was foiled, however, when on more than one occasion the cables were yanked out of the recorder during the seven-hour feeding frenzy that took place around the DJ booth. I did manage to capture bits and pieces of my set and decided to patch them together to create this Tech Funk and Breakbeat mix which is equal parts live set and studio recording. Enjoy!"

Interview : A Guy Called Gerald (Firefly Radio)

Firefly Radio are well worth checking out as a resource for mixes & interviews - their podcasts series is particularly impressive having featured guests ranging from Adam Beyer to Adam Freeland, Deekline to Derrick Carter, Format B to Francios K, and many more.

Raving / roving reporter Will Gilgrass hooks up with Gerald Simpson to chat about Firefly's next show on 13th March in Nottingham and also to find out about the claims by certain magazines that he has announced the reformation of 808 state...

FIREFLY RADIO TALKS TO A GUY CALLED GERALD

Elite Force Video Interview : Nottingham, January 2010

Firefly in Nottingham. It's the kind of night I wish there were more of these days ... genres don't matter there (although it is known more as a techno night than anything else), the soundsystem is always amazing, the people are completely open-minded, up for it and the way the nights flow from style-to-style keeps everyone interested & compels them to stay on the dancefloor for the duration.

This video interview (with neat bits of footage thrown in from the show) was done backstage in a rather NOISY green room :)

Interview :: The Loops Of Fury

Interview by Adan

So you guys originally started working together as Hyperion, was there a particular reason for changing names to The Loops Of Fury?

Jim: We called ourselves Hyperion when we started playing clubs, so it was the logical choice of name when we had tunes to release. What we didn't realise at the time is that there are several Hyperion's out there, so it was a choice between Hyperion(oz) or something a little better...

Charleston, House, Electro, Zodiac Cartel, Dirty, Filth, Jazz, Tech-Funk,

Brand new mix I did for Electric Sushi. I fancied the challenge of working with some Benny Goodman from trad-era jazz - made a really cool change from the usual stuff and I'm dead pleased with how the mix worked out. Let me know what u think :)

Don't forget to hit me up on http://www.zodiaccartel.com to grab the free downloads and website exclusives and look out for new remixes coming soon for Moby, Lee Coombs & Tai (Coco Machete).

Maelstrom :: DJ Mixes

Two new mixes from the talented French tech funk representative Maelstrom are available for download on Soundcloud. These are in support, and advance of his upcoming visit to Australia in May, where he'll be DJ'ing his usual electro breaks sets as Maelstrom, and additional NuFunk sets as Mr Strom. And it's my personal opinion that mid tempo breaks and NuFunk have done quite a bit to revitalize and refunkulate the broader broken beat genre that suffered a bit of an identity crisis the past few years. So it's nice to see the sound gettin more play. And Maelstrom delivers with both mixes. Enjoy.

Maelstrom - No Prisoners Mix 2010 is electro meets bassline and breaks.

Mr Strom - NuFunk Mix 2010 is party starter funk breaks in fine form.

The Loops of Fury - DJ Mix Feb 2010

Brisbane-based crew, The Loops of Fury, had a stellar 2009. The dynamic duo shot to attention with their huge 'Flick A Switch' single which reached the Beatport Top 3 and spent a cool 2 months inside the Top 30 making it one of U&A's biggest sellers to date.

Since then they have remixed Dirty Super Car, Mike Hulme, Meat Katie & Dylan Rhymes and delivered not one, but two awesome slices of next-level electro-techno as singles for U&A. The first of these, 'SOAP' is out this week on Beatport with a fine, fine pair of remixes from Peo de Pitte and Hatiras (from the legendary Hatrax label).

The boys have also put together a 30-minute promo DJ mix for your download which showcases some of their finest productions alongside some of their future classics and live mashups.

Soul Of Man :: DJ Set from BoC (RIPEcast)

Introducing THE RIPEcast, a brand new weekly podcast featuring the musical stylings of the famed San Francisco-based DJ collective The Space Cowboys (and their friends). The Cowboys are launching The RIPEcast in style with live recordings from the 10-Year Anniversary of their legendary Breakfast of Champions New Year's Day Party. Next up on THE RIPEcast: Soul of Man's (Finger Lickin' Records) mushroom-cloud-layin' set from the main room at BoC.

Breakfast of Champions and his set as described by Justin from Soul of Man:

"I arrived in San Fran on the 30th to stay with fellow cowboy Murphstar and spent the following day rummaging through my tunes. The brief – New year, funky, breakbeat, party, classics, Finger Lickin’- the result is what you have for your sonic delight. I started with an unusual jungle tune ‘Strange Things’ from Count Sinden that got mashed up with some happy new year toasting from the infamous Ragga Twins and then smashed into Deekline’s booty of ‘Outer Space’. Tried and tested classic that set the party mood. I was trying to get the cowboys to open the dark curtains because it all seemed too night time for a day time party but the ravers just weren’t having it! The curtains remained firmly drawn and the aural assault was underway. Elite Force’s outstanding burning man anthem of Deadmau5 was next to destroy, followed by DJ Fixx’s ‘Shake it’. One of my favourite house producers of recent years is Miles Dyson his ‘Outro’ track always delivers with a mighty punch with its classical strings and devastating bass line. Next up was a cheeky bootleg of Alan Braxe’s ‘Intro’. See what I did there -‘Outro’ then ‘Intro’(!!); following this a monster rerub from Krafty Kuts called ‘Funk Nasty’ featuring Grandma Funk. Then one of my faves of 2009, the awesome South Rakkas Crew, ragga overload and remixed by the mighty talent of Fake Blood – a marching anthem of epic proportions, a tune that is neither breaks nor house but commands all crew to unite.

No set would be complete without a Plump DJs tune, their ‘I’ll Be Good’ always vibes up the room, as does Finger Lickin’s remix of the year...Rising star Peo De Pitte delivered an incredible take on the Drumattic Twins ‘Crazy Love’ which was followed by a cheeky mash up booty that I was given in the Ukraine at an incredible festival on a beach by Russian superstar dj Lady Waks. It mashes up her ‘Minimal’ tune with Crookers and Salt & Pepper’s ‘Push It’ one of the biggest tunes of 2009. Stop for breath. No! Slyde’s ‘Slippedy Starter’ gave a nod to the old school Finger Lickin’ days then Control Z’s remix of a Dylan Rhymes tune took the roof off bringing the set back to the pure breaks orgy. Dub Step has taken over in 2009 and to be honest it doesn’t rock my boat too much, however when Shack of Elite Force hijacked TC’s ‘Where’s my Money’ the result was a deadly dancey and hard hitting melange that has become a main stay in recent sets. Then a classic from the Finger Lickin’ vaults ‘The Push’ by the Plumps, another awesome Fake Blood production ‘The Dozens’ and then as any superstar dj should, I did...I ended with the outstanding 2 Many DJs remix of Chems ‘Superstar DJs’.

What can I say, San Francisco has something unique. An up for it, musically educated, warm, super friendly and crazy bunch of nutters. Truly an incredible honour to be a part of – Huge respect to everyone who came and heard the set and to the Space Cowboys I raise my glass – Have a great 2010 and see y’all soon. Justin Rushmore."
