I'd like to say a big thank you to all our readers over the past couple of years, but we are no longer running the Tech Funk Manifesto.

However, we'd like to invite you to our new blog 'United & Anarchic'. The themes will be similar, there will be plenty of quality music up for grabs, but the interface, writing and front end will, we hope, be of a much higher quality, and geared a little more to artists affiliated with our U&A Recordings imprint (although not exclusively). There will also be a regular 'Spotlight' section with in-depth interviews and exclusive mixes from some of our favourite artists.

He is Damn Horns

It's clear that this man doesn't take himself too seriously (you need only look at his press shots!) but it's clear his music does. Damn Horns sprung to light for me via Mr No Hands Life Support Machine Blog. His mix below enbodies techfunk, electro, breaks & House gelled together with aplomb and the thing that also got me was his approach to showcasing some of the free workings flying around the web at the moment, which you have to take your hat off too, and shows the strength of the work that's being given away, crazy people!

Commanding early support and radio play from the likes of Ali B, Bassbin Twins, Nick Thayer, Far Too Loud and Peo De Pitte it would seem Damn Horns got a lot to offer in a very short amount of time. I think what brought him to light so quickly was the unrelenting sharpness of his productions, which notably shows up in his extremely cheeky track, wobble over Wanda and it works!!

With the recent release of the Loops of Fury's 'We Unfold' I managed to wrangle beat legends, the Plump DJs in to the Manifesto for a nice chat about what's to come, talent and blogs. But I'm not leaving you high and dry, I've got some Soundcloud linkage and some delicious video footage of the Plumps 'We Unfold' remix getting a hammering from Carl Cox at Ultra..

Lee! Andy! How are you guys?

Yeah great, all is well in the lab, just preparing for a busy summer of festivals and releases on Grand Hotel. We have more stuff from Bonsai Kat, Maximilian and Dirty Super Car planned – plus another Grand Hotel part at XOYO in May… Let me breathe for a sec.

I know we spoke a few months ago, about your “return” of sorts, after a breather with you guys developing Grand Hotel, and also your sound? Do you feel like your legs are stretched with the amazing reaction to both ‘Light Fantastic’ & the remix of The Loops of Fury’s ‘We Unfold’? How does it feel to be back in the game?

Very happy indeed, we are always trying to find new ways to make people dance and have so much more up our sleeves. It’s wicked to know that folks are digging our shit. Light Fantastic is being caned at our gigs, and the new Loops of Fury remix is being support by everyone from Carl Cox to Zinc to Kissy Sellout and beyond. That there definitely makes us feel like we’re on the right track. After leaving Fingerlickin’ and our residency at Fabric, we’ve had to do a lot of work to get a new platform for our music. After selling out XOYO in record time, feeling the new support for Grand Hotel, we are in the zone right now.

I was watching the video when Carl Cox dropped the remix of the Loops tune at Ultra. You guys probably experience it constantly, but how does it feel to have that kind of support and reaction from the world over?
Even better sometimes when it’s someone you know well that’s supporting your music. We have been lucky enough to play for Carl at Space in Ibiza for the last 4 years and hang out with him when we’re there. He’s a top bloke and we love those YouTube clips taken from folks in the crowd, whilst they don’t capture the sound quality they do capture the atmosphere. You really can feel that excited, bouncing with joy/panic kind of energy. We wish we could have been at Ultra but making music must take priority at the moment.

In saying that, with that kind of response from the greats, what’s the feeling about young talent like The Loops of Fury getting plays from artists that opens them up to some of the best exposure you could wish for?

They are very talented lads, we all DJ’d together recently at Blow Pop Bristol, so we got a chance to hang out. They remixed Dirty Super Car’s ‘Get a Grip’ for Grand Hotel last year and that found great worldwide support. We’re very happy to be able to get a chance to add our slant to their amazing ‘We Unfold.’ When the original tune you are remixing is that good, the task is made a great deal easier.

How would you nurture that exposure? What kind of advice would you give to up and coming artists that you want to help, more so on Grand Hotel? I mean, Elite Force acts as a mentor of sorts to the U&A stable, Meat Katie to Lot49. Do you think harbouring new talent is important and more prominent than it was say, 5 years ago?

With great power comes great responsibility; when bearing this in mind you have a duty to nurture new acts when they come forward. We certainly would not be where we are today if we had not been given breaks by the Fresakanova Records, Freestylers, Orbital, Steve Blonde, Kurly and Fingerlickin’ so you see what I mean! It is essential for us as experimental dance artists to keep our fingers on the pulse, you just can’t ignore the raw talent of tomorrow’s stars. They inspire us, move us and occasionally give us a well needed kick up the arse.

With blogs still a staple in getting your music out there, do you think there will be a shift in how we share music and how we broadcast what we make? If so, what do you think it’ll be?

At the moment, the power to influence seems to have grown in the hands of the radio DJs who are a consistent voice in the bewildering world of endless music.People are going to our gigs, and that for us is a sign that we are doing the right thing. If this stops, then we know we have done something wrong. It’s simple, really, we do not look too much to market research as a guiding light. Instead we play new music, and make music that excites us – generally when we do, the crowd gets excited as well; we hope this continues.

We’ll close it with the usual – upcoming tunes and tours, let’s hear them and any shouts out?

May 14th will see us at the Grand Hotel Party @ XOYO; May 16th sees the release of Plump DJs ‘Hump Rock.’ June drops Bonsai Kat’s ‘Optimo,’ and an absolutely hectic schedule of touring for all of us.

The TFM Interview - The Loops of Fury

Electro-Techno stalwarts, The Loops of Fury have been blowing up of late, with a brand new single, We Unfold hitting Beatport this week complete with massive remix from The Plump DJs. The list of supporters is truly A-List and the range of their appeal can be clearly seen when they can include the likes of Carl Cox, John Digweed, Bloody Beetroots and Annie Nightingale amongst their supporters.

1.) Would you say you were studio boffins at heart, or are you more excited about the live & DJ sets? Tell us a bit about your background & the path you've taken musically to get to where you are right now?

Jimi: Working the studio and playing shows are both pretty fun things to do, I'm not sure if I have a favorite! There is a certain satisfaction in writing music locked up in the studio, where you are not sure how what you are doing will be received and the music only really exists in that room. It's when you take it out and play it in a DJ set or see someone else play it that the music really comes alive, and that is definitely the most exciting thing for me. So I guess the DJ sets are where it's at!

We've always really walked down the line between the two, we've been writing tunes together for a really long time as well as playing live and DJing on the side. We started out as an electro/jazz fusion act in a Battle Of The Bands competition while we were at school, all hardware mind you - we ran the whole thing off a Kawai K5000 and an MPC2000XL. At the time we were listening to a lot of Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Air, Josh Abrahams and Adam F, hence the weird combo!

2.) You guys have been making exciting strides recently with remixes for DIm Mak & Grand Hotel amongst others. Who would be your dream artists to remix?

Jimi: Ahh so many! The glaringly obvious one would be The Chemical Brothers, due to their massive influence on our formative years and ability to consistently put out amazing music. Day dreaming aside, I would love to be doing some club mixes for bands, tunes with proper vocals and interesting guitar and synth stuff to chop up. Like the Tame Impala rework Erol Alkan did, that is really really cool. There's loads of awesome dance producers I'd love to get into as well, people like Boys Noize, The Subs, Tai... Guys like Jan Driver and Ado are on fire at the moment!

Max: Personally, if we found ourselves in a studio with The Chems, I'd be like Johnny Depp in Blow where he's watching his daughter being born. You know, shaking, convulsing, and then finally collapsing on the ground.

3.) I noticed that your amazing remix for Rabbit in the Moon seemed to disappear from sale after a day or two. Don't tell me you sold out of digital copies - seriously though, what was the scoop with that as it was a great bit of work, and is there anywhere people can download it or hear it?

Max: It was all very odd and annoying, but the official word is that the label that put it out had to change names or something and it's been gone ever since. We did a little give away to promote our iPhone app last week... Maybe it'll surface again in a more official sense further down the track?

4.) The music industry is for ever shifting the goalposts as people's buying patterns and format choices evolve and change. How are you seeing this affect you & what positive steps do you take to reach out to your fanbase, given it's easier than ever to do that (whilst being harder to earn money from sales).

Jimi: That's the beauty of the internet really, people are getting used to having ready access to new music immediately and often they don't want to pay for it. Which is why it's so important to go to shows and see the DJs you like play! We try to put out mixes as often as we can with our new tunes and other stuff we like in it. We love to hang around and party when we play too, it's always good to meet people that dig music. There's also a secret project that we're working on at the moment, we're putting together a little radio show but I can't really say more than that for the time being.......

5.) Institubes announced they were ceasing trading last week as a result of terminally declining sales & a devaluing of music to the point where people see it should be a free resource. Can you see more & more labels going the same way, or do you see them adapting & changing to the new world order?

Max: That is really sad news, Institubes put out some incredible music. Surkin and Siriusmo are personal favourites and influences. I really hope other inspiring labels don't follow suit. Before this happened I thought the industry was at the tail end of the internet shake up and people were finally adapting and taking advantage of the internet world, but sadly it looks like we're still in a state of flux.

6.) I see you also design iPhone Apps & I notice you just launched your Loops of Fury Ap, which is an excellent tool by the way. Tell us a little about that.

Max: Yep, that's my day job :) It's basically a way of getting news, updates and tracks on your iPhone from us, as and when they come out. With Soundcloud alone, this becomes a really cool app for the punter. 7.) You smashed it last summer with 'Rack Em' on U&A - what was the biggest thrill from that whole release ... for example I noticed Sacha played it at the opening of Space in Ibiza. Big buzz right?

Jimi: Yeah man, massive! We've got friends in Australia sending us footage from him playing it in his shows right round the country, which is amazing. It's funny, he's played a few of our tunes but he is not really an obvious person to be getting into them. Our music is generally pretty high energy and intensity, and normally on an electro house tip, which you wouldn't necessarily think of when you think of a dude like Sasha. We seem to attract support from a fairly broad selection of people and DJs, which is pretty cool!

Max: We just found out that Carl Cox played Unfold at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami last weekend as well. It's amazing really, we've got old tapes of sets of his recorded from the radio that are worn out from being played so much. It's an absolute honour that these DJs are supporting our music.

8.) What's in the pipeline from the Loops then ... what's getting you excited about the months ahead?

Max: Quite a bit of stuff! We've got remixes for Felix Luker on U&A and Hunter Vaughan on the new Death Proof Recordings coming out really soon. The latter is quite Fury. And some new originals on U&A further down the line, one of which is a hark back to our early days making uplifting jungle on Amiga computers in the mid 90s. We've always been into the PLUR side of jungle, and we've been wanting to get that influence into our stuff for a while now so we had a great time making this one!

Show wise we've got KOKO in London on April 21st and we're working with the Play For Japan guys so stay tuned on that one, they're announcing dates shortly at a number of clubs across London! And there are rumours of some Australian shows later in the year, but we can neither confirm/deny at this stage...

This Friday just gone I found myself at the Big Beat Reunion in London's lovely but shady Jammm in Brixton, one of my old stomping grounds. I'm always slight wrong-footed by South London ... even though I know it so well, it has an intensity about it that you seldom find North of the river with layer on layer of humanity battling for survival space. As an example, the cab ride back to the hotel afterwards was full of banter & was strangely worth the £22 I was knowingly being *fleeced* for a four mile ride.

To say the gig was an unusual one for me to take would be understatement. I've never before agreed to do an old skool / big beat set, and despite the huge time-drain of 3 full days of preparation, it was actually a great - re-education sifting through the piles of old vinyl. Each banger I unearthed was greeted like a long lost friend, even to the point of 'knowing smiles' accompanying the recall of each bit of vinyl's unique quirks. Trying to mix these rough & ready slices of history together was a whole new ballgame & my plan to journey from 107 - 137 bpm seemed like a good idea in principal, but in practice it was a wild beast of a ride, and one that was hard to tame for much of the time.

Here is the set in all it's rough glory. Thanks to the Noise crew for snagging a most unexpected recording.

It's been an odd month, I seem to have listened to more than my fair share of mixes these past few weeks, long days in work have permitted such things I suppose. With the assistance of the trusty mp3 player and a quiet office majority of the time, i've stuck my teeth into a robust amount of tunage, from broody breaks, titanic techno to enigmatic electro... decidely old, yet classic and some fresh-off-the-press, exclusive-riddled helpings. Here are the picks of the said bunch!

Typically Lee Coombs podcast takes front and centre, he's been digging again, not at his old vinyl but at a mix he stumbled across that needed a 2011 spring airing. Comprising of classic electro, breaks and house cuts with none other than the WHOMP of 'Dooms Night' and Armand Van Helden's timeless take on CJ Bolland's 'Sugar Is Sweeter' sat amongst the bunch!

This man can do no wring for me at the moment, Alan Fitzpatrick has truly taken the techno scene by the balls and showing no signs of letting go! His intense, unflagging, feverous techno has left many a room baying for more and with this 3 hour helping I never tired of it. This was made for dark cavenrous rooms and with it being the night closer at Fabric, I think it sat perfectly...

Another gent who is taking no prisoners at the moment, lies in the shape of 10 Rapid. His unmistakable, raw, electro/techno sound is, as always, moving dancefloors the world over. Having had the satisfaction of witnessing one of Dominic's sets I knew what to expect with this offering, earpounding basslines and drumlines straight out of the electro handbook. BOOM!

Yeah, new year, loads of new tracks… I’m excited! Just as excited as I am when trying to figure out what wig to wear on a Friday night ;)

Your sound is rather unique in time where dance music is starting to really experiment with hybrid genres [genre cross overs] how did you come across the meaty hip-hop-esque beats and rhythms that pepper your releases? There’s a noticeable influence from a ton of different genres.

Hmm, yeah I have a quite diverse music taste. I started out as a DJ on a radio station when I was 13 and then got into making dance music on Atari and old school samplers. I’ve been working as a fulltime music producer and done everything from pop to house, garage, breakbeat, raregrooves etc…

I’m really into well produced beats and thoughtful musical riffs... If drums ain’t rocking I find it quite hard to like the track to be honest…. It sets the mood for me… I guess it originates from my youth when I was constantly listening to hip-hop oriented dance music….

2 years ago I made a decision to just frankly not give a shit about what people dictated as genres and just do my thing. It’s pretty much a mix of my musical history with a slap of fucked up Peo weirdness.

Do you think that your sound is one that will catch on with the recent influences of hip-hop styled Dubstep, the blogs are catching on and beginning to be the first to promote the freshest music [both illegally and legally] do you feel that the sound is suited to the current taste of music being promoted by blogs, or do you feel like you have to be one step ahead of the game?

One always has to be a step ahead of the game… sometimes it’s hard as certain releases take time to get released and that’s where blogs and bootlegs comes in … blogs are quick and fast and gets your tracks out to a big amount of people…

What about blogs as a source of newly released music? In talking to a few different artists over the years, I’ve found some actively support it, some are forced to support it and some want the blogs to stop. What’s the view on music blogging?

I got loads of help from the blogs last year… The Riverside remix went through the roof with downloads and even Ministry of Sound hit me up and wanted to release it, there were a bit too many samples in there to be able to do a commercial release though.. But I think we are reaching 100 000 downloads soon of it, so it’s still being downloaded every month..

Most promoters who booked me last year heard of me from the blogs. In a perfect world it would be nice to get the big fat royalties from record sales as you did back in the day, but times have changed and I’ve got nothing but love for the blogs…. Big ups to everyone who spread the word about me last year!!!! !

Burning Up is just about to drop on U&A. U&A’s a big signing for you, especially because it contains a rare diversity for a record label, did it influence the way in which you produced Burning Up and Berlusconi?

I did a remix for Loops of Fury at the beginning of last year and since then Shack was on me about a single release on U&A. I got caught up with remixes and other collaborations but really wanted to be on U&A again and just decided to sit down and crank out some new banging tracks on my own.

I knew Burning Up was something that both Shack and I would be into and he really liked it. Berlusconi was a bit of a laugh really.. I wanted to bring in some weird soul feel in the breakdowns and then kick off with minimal groovy house... I’m going to Italy this summer… Love to drop it there, evil grin ;)

How has U&A treated you? I know that Shack eyes quality more than anything else in the world. How has the artistic relationship with you and the gang over at U&A developed?

U&A is the perfect label to be on, nothing is left to coincidence or chance. It’s what you need these days. You hear about all these DJ’s who start their own label and thinks it’s easy, it’s not… It’s harder than ever to get through the white noise on internet, sales are lower than ever, all DJ’s inboxes are exploding with underproduced music promos and peoples attention span is extremely short. U&A is one of those labels that have embraced new technology in an amazing way. There will definitely be more banging Peo de Pitte material on U&A this year!

What’s to come in the next few months? Release wise?

Oh, yeah… I’ve got one upcoming release on Lee Mortimer’s label Warehouse and one release on Will Bailey’s imprint Simma Records in the upcoming months. I completed remixes for Tony Senghore, Will Bailey and another huge dance act (I’ll keep that one secret so far). 2 cheeky bootlegs are also done and ehm, might end up on blogs soon ;)

Just doing a remix now for my friend Per QX and then after that it’s time to crack on with more original material for U&A!

It goes without saying, that unmistakable sound is making a massive resurgence! ACID is back and sounding fresher than ever! Personally, I cant say it's ever been gone, but of late there's been a glut of massive Roland generated sickness. And there's no denying it's been of the highest quality, with some of the big names taking to their dusty 303's. Lets go back though to start...

My first recollection of acid was via a dusty 12" that nestled in my uncle's collection, being a rave enthusiast at the tender age of 13 in the early 90's (Nice one Unc'!), I never tired of scrolling through his gathered wax. I still have a mix tape with this taking pride of place on it, must dig it out and share, it contains acid of the highest calibre, just like this....

There are many praised acid champions out there, with the likes of Dexter...

DJ Pierre and Green Velvet...

And collaborations made in Roland heaven! Like Jesper Dahlback & Jori Hulkkonen!! Jack that @$&*$!!

But none, in my opinion, come close to the true kings of acid... Hardfloor. Having had the utmost satisfaction of witnessing sets from these guys over the years, not once have they disappointed. To do what they do was unfathomable to me, having sat with a 303 some years ago and giving up relatively quickly like a kid who'd been beaten by a rubix cube... much to my friends amusement. I must try it again now I'm more ofe with production tools, if I can find one that doesn't cost the earth!

They've made countless classics over the years, whether it be their original productions like Acperience, Murano, and my personal favourite...

... or they're remix duties, taking on seminal tracks like New Order's Blue Monday, Mory Kante's 'Yeke Yeke', Meat Katie's and the manifesto's Elite Force's 'Divine', which I cant find a video for to display the sheer class of it (Damn it!) I'll guess I'll have to flip the lid then and allow Elite Force to take us out with his tasteful and typically enigmatic revamp of their most notable classic, Acperience!

3 years of AUX - Remix competition

2010 was a big year for AUX, as they fully established themselves as a force to be reckoned with - in my top 3 labels of 2010 anyway!

Formed in April 2008 by Jonny Gough with an open minded view of music without boundaries, they always look to artists that push the limits of genre boundaries along with top notch production. The label also continually supports new artists which has earned them well deserved respect around the world, and long may they continue.

Releases lined up for 2011 include those from label stalwarts Jeroen Van Aken, Rektchordz and Hironimus Bosch as well as 2 huge releases for up and coming US producer Hunter Vaughan and Russian producer Bullione.

To Kick off AUX's 3rd birthday celebrations this year, they've decided to run their 1st ever remix competition. This is the perfect opportunity for all you ambitious producers out there, to get your work heard and maybe even released on AUX. It was important that to give everyone top quality parts to work with, so they sifted through their bulging back catalogue and pulled out Jeroen Van Aken's monster bass breaks thumper 'Switch The Flip'.

They are looking for at least 3 remixes of 'Switch The Flip' to go on the release, although if the quality of entries is high enough, then they reserve the right to release as many of them as we see fit!

The deadline for the competition is midnight on the 28th February which gives you approximately 5 weeks. There are no restrictions on style (within reason) and all genres will be considered, so long as they're aimed directly at the dance floor. They're looking for cutting edge, cross-over, original sounds with high production quality

The winning entries will of course have their remixes featured on the release and the top entry will also receive their pick of 3 titles from the AUX back catalogue. (Its all about the 3s this year!)

It's great to come across an up and coming group, that feeling of discovery. Today I've found it in the form of the superbly titled Darth & Vader. Electro is a little on the stale side nowadays and whilst still somewhat popul. It's not the beast it used to be. However - it's so pleasing to see some producers working overtime to keep it alive with some fresh dirt. Darth & Vader are some of these producers.

They've just released their remix of Freefire's Dataloss on Plasmapool and I tell you what, it's a banger. Just check their Soundcloud; but that's not all!

Having seen A-Trak live a few days ago at Summafieldayze, he dropped his popular Duck Sauce track Barbra Streisand and it went off but these guys have thrown up a remix that is bigger than the original. 'Hard Flaw' (Acperience 2010 Elite Force Revamp) FREE 320

This track is one of the reasons I make the music I do. I can remember exactly where I was on the dancefloor back in 1992 when I first heard this acid anthem. I'd been into acid house for 3 years or so, particularly the pHuture-style raw filth that to me was the PUNK of it's day. Acid House liberated people and politicized them in a way that's hard to understand nowadays ... going out dancing at the weekend was more often than not a political act, a statement of intent. This actually came out after the Criminal Justice Act became law in the UK (if I remember rightly) so it didn't necessarily soundtrack the rucks & riots & outrage that came with liking & consuming this music, but for me it was a symbol of that joyous moment of total abandonment where you forget everything and simply allow yourself to DROWN in the music. This is acid house at it's finest - an organic symphony of machines.

This version is dead simple. It's about letting the track breathe and evolve how it was always intended too. It's not about meddling, it's about gently giving it a slightly different context - a lot of work went into getting the production elements to sit comfortably and in bringing out certain elements of the original and using the stereo field to decent effect to do this. It's not rocket science, it's just an excuse to dig out this gem and play it in a current context.

If you've been following me anywhere on the internet lately, you would have seen me raving about the return of the robots, Daft Punk. Anticipation is building around their scoring of Tron: Legacy and holy hell am I excited; I'm the same level of excited as I was when The Chemical Brothers announced Further, probably more actually.

What makes this more interesting? The rumours around their return to the live shows. Nothing has been announced, but instead the french duo decided to pop at a Phoenix concert. Completely unannounced.

It goes without saying, for every release there seems to follow the remixes, often on more than one occasion. Ok, if the track has taken a great initial reception, it only seems justifiable that a burgeoning package of remixes should follow.

But, as it is with all remixes, whilst some are momentous (often better than the original) there will be others that are the filler that haven't taken the amount of effort the original so rightly deserved.

But this column isn't to pick away at those remixes I regard as donkey-trough fodder, but to look at the pedigrees of the more professional stables. Some of those remixes are never made 'official', but are purely completed for the satisfaction of making their own stamp on it and playing out to the baying masses on the dancefloor, even handing them out as free downloads at times, (to whom I doff my cap!!).

Being the techno fiend that I am, it's safe to say I've trawled many an online record store and artist web page looking for that track that will blow the next party apart. And none more so than the following tune. As if the original of Deepgroove's 'Annihilate' wasn't good enough, Joseph Capriati takes the twitchy, driving beast by the horns and throws it about the place like a rag doll! Front of the wallet fodder for the next few months I'm sure.

It would be rude not to show some love to one of the finest Bristolian exports, Deepgroove. Proving their at the top of their game with endless amounts of quality over the past few years they've kindly given away a remix of theirs via their soundcloud. Take a listen to their remix of Sei A's 'Lazers', undoubtedly a fine effort and all the more better when it's free!

Unbelievably, this next track was given away by Boy 8-Bit, his take on Burial's 'Archangel' was widely welcomed, not only because they knew the quality that was to follow but the fact he took what was a moody, dark, sweeping dubstep tune and allowed a lot of 4/4 dj's to put it into their sets and give it a much more club-friendly feel. There's no doubting this is still being played today, why wouldn't you?! It's phenomenal!

It goes without saying, Boy 8-Bit really know how to make a track, but also definitely knows how to make a mixset too! Yes, it's full of his works, but when it's of the quality you come to expect from him... who the hell would begrudge him for doing so? I certainly wouldn't, as this next helping has been on full rotation since May!

As said above there are producers out there who know how to take an already acclaimed masterpiece and make it his own. With this one there's no denying, I started listening with a bit of scepticism, having approached one of mine, and many others favourite classics. Little did I know Ant Brook's had taken Lil Louis's 'French Kiss' and made it an all new fresh track that will overcome any party. A truly amazing effort! Oh, and he's kept 'that' breakdown, which always leaves a room blushing! Ha!

I'm gonna finish up with what you could call, ol' reliable. This proudly sits on vinyl tucked away as a prized possession that I will never let go of, even if the missus keep's saying we need room! I'll let my digital copy take the brunt of the work now, as there's no denying it takes a fair beating.

Being a pretty big fan of New Order's work already, holding that indie-kid heritage dear. When I found out Lee Coombs was taking on their 'Crystal', the excitement was overwhelming!
He took what was already a fine effort from New Order and made it into one those momentous tunes that gets every party moving. One of those tracks that allows you to crossover from many a genre and can sit perfectly at the start of a night or finishing it off. Techfunker's, listen, learn.... but no doubt you have already.

I've been AWOL in the desert. Burning Man this year was ten times the head-jam that last year's was (and that left me utterly floored). As usual it will take weeks to process the experience, and probably longer to find the right words to describe the indescribable, but in the meantime I'll be dropping a series of video edits on the blog.

First up, the jaw-dropping Saturday night set at Opulent Temple. I loved the changes that OT made this year, bringing the perimeter in tighter, tweaking the flame guns on top of the booth, and massively improving the fire control that the DJ (yes the DJ!!) has inside the booth, not to mention the reconfiguration of the bottom end of the system which meant you could hear it from the DEEP Playa.

This felt like a homecoming in the truest sense of the word )*(

Bump DJs - Falcone :: Disconnected Audio

Bump DJs are identical twin duo, Mike and Manny Holihan. Over the last couple of years they have established themselves solidly as DJs in the Sydney techno scene. Recently, the Bumps' have been hard at work in the studio putting their own twist on the solid techno sound they are renowned for pushing in the club. Setting high standards for themselves, they have now secured their first release, Falcone on Disconnected Audio.

On remix duties we have Aussie favourite, Bass Kleph who turns in a big peak time track that is full of party vibes and massive amounts of class. Keeping things close to home we also have New Zealand’s Magik Johnson who keeps things a little housier with a tight groove and soulful vibes.

The whole U&A family took over a Big Top at Scotland's most excellent Wickerman Festival a couple of weeks back & smashed it both nights, with killer sets from Zodiac Cartel, The Loops of Fury, Mike Hulme, Vandal, Rektchordz, Simon Jackson, Resistance, and this massive workout from Calvertron. Have you been to Wickerman before and can you describe it for people that haven’t had the pleasure?
Thousands of people, great atmosphere, cool acts, the U&A tent was rocking! (and packed)

What current track is your weapon of choice at the moment?
The latest release on my label (came out this week) made by me and my cousin (Paul Calver) entitled - 'Calvertron & Qalvr - Raw 2 Da Floor' seems to be doing the business at my gigs!

Whats your next big show coming up you would like to tell everyone about?
I've got some great gigs coming up in August in places like Vancouver, Sicily, Denver but I'm really excited about a show Will Bailey and I are playing as 'Twocker' at the Kosmic Festival in LA. It's my 1st time in LA and the 1st Twocker set since 2008.

What is your all-time favourite u&a track and why?
'We Don't Play That' (Aniki Remix) is pretty sick!

Anything else you would like to add?

New compilation from Myagi - Donations to Temple of Flux welcome!

It's been about 2 years since the last proper Myagi studio album and about a year and a half since he started his label Pop And Lock, so Andrew Mavor (as his family like to call him) figured it was about time to do a new "compilation" of sorts to hold things over until he finishes his next album, due out later this year or early next. It's also for charity! 100% of the proceeds from any donations you make go to Burning Man's Temple of Flux, a massive construction project that needs all the support it can get.

"San Francisco is a city very dear to me, and has been the site of some of my favourite shows I've played in my 6 years of touring or so... The city has a great nightlife scene and is also a hub for the festival / phenomenon Burning Man, a week long celebration of music, art and lifestyle in the desert. The festival is very much a labor of love - I knew this already, but didn't comprehend the degree to which the word "labor" comes into play until a recent trip to the bay area to do a benefit show with Elite Force, Soul Of Man and Slyde for the 2010 Temple Of Flux, a massive construction and project that involves numerous friends of mine."

Kicking off with a Hypem-topping Calvin Harris mashup, following through with a stellar Beatport-conquering single for U&A ('SpeakerBump') and a wicked slice of classic tech-funk for Aux ('Lush'), he's also been busy throwing down at a series of keynote festivals this summer, recently closing out the U&A tent at Wickerman at 5am to a chorus of 'ONE MORE TUNE' that resonated well into the next day!

With the Aeon Festival in the South West coming up and a series of new tracks & remixes (his remix for Felix Luker on U&A is MASSIVE!) he's now decided to set free the second bootleg / remake of the year, this time focusing his sights on Jakatta's 'American Dream'. It's the perfect end-of-evening anthem :)

Here we have a Butter Party mix, which is actually a re-recording of a 2-hour Butter Party set from a late 09 Revolver gig (w/Loops of Fury & Wongo) which in Butters' own words "includes some of the more... "honest" mixes". It may not be completely, er...'like butta" the entire way through, but nonetheless, a massive toast from TFM to Butter Party for the mix.
